WE HAVE BIG PLANS TO UPGRADE OUR FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT, AND CAR PARK
we are in the middle of planning everything, so please pop back here for the latest information

We have a special Bowls Wheelchair for use on the Green.  Here it is last September on it's maiden outing at our club with Alan in the middle of a full length game.  After five years of being confined to watching from the banks he is finally now able to be back onto the green, and enjoy himself getting back to bowling again.

We are hoping to be lucky enough to obtain a Grant for
- another wheelchair and ramp,
- UBI Bowls Launchers,
- Bowls Buddy,
- Training / Coaching, Children's and Smaller hands bowls
- dedicated mats and string for Visually Impaired

A massive 'Thank You' to Disability Bowls England and Gedling IBC for this kind donation.
It is already being put to good use with more players excited to use it  this coming season.
CAR PARKING  -  TWO ACCESSIBLE BAYS WILL SOON BE NEWLY MARKED OUT IN OUR GREEN SIDE CAR PARK

CLUB HOUSE -
We are making various upgrades to small ramps at door thresholds, improvements to our already high standard disabled toilet, signage, handrails etc.  But in general, following a Disability Access Audit, our club was deemed to already be in very good shape in most areas.

ACCESSIBLE GLOUCESTERSHIRE CARRY OUT FACILITY ACCESS AUDITS AROUND THE COUNTY.
"Dursley Bowls Club is in a wonderful location and is a great venue for all ages, with membership ranging from age 10 to 95. This age range means it is as important as ever that this club is accessible to everyone, and this is certainly something all members of the club are aware of. It is clear from our visit that accessibility is at the forefront of the management’s minds and the passion each member has in representing an inclusive club is a delight to see.

The general access at the club is already good. There are some improvements required to really make it as accessible as possible but we were impressed with our visit. "

BUSES AND TRAINS -  Stagecoach operates the Buses in our area with the number 65 from the Bus Station in town and outside Sainsburys 200m away, travelling to Gloucester via various stops at Cam, Eastington, Stonehouse then after Quedgeley along the Bristol Rd Peel Centre to the city transport hub.  Please see the Stage Coach website for times, stops and bus availability.  There are usually stops timetabled at the Cam and Dursley railway station (Gloucester to Bristol line) but these are centred around early morning and end of business day to coincide with those needing to travel to work.

PRINT AND BRAILLE - If you require any documentation about the club in LARGE FONT, please just ask and we will be happy to help.  We do not have the ability to print Braille, but more than happy to support you if you need help finding out more details about our club, what we have to offer, and how to get to us.  Please call our Secretary in the first instance Gill Meadows on 01453 544379.

COACHING - DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING -  GILL MEADOWS
Gill initially qualified 11 years ago under the England Coach Bowls Association scheme, achieving Level 2.  She has just last year upgraded this to the recognised Coach Bowls Level 2 certificate and is now qualified to coach children and adults right through to County standard.  Last year she had the opportunity to help the County's level 3 coach, with the newly formed Youth Development Squad.  She has also just completed the Coach Bowls Dementia awareness course, and 'Supporting Inclusion' theory and practical certificates.  For the practical element she went to Swindon Manor IBC where they have a strong disabled section, and learnt about wheelchair use in the sport, plus how to 'direct' Visually Impaired bowlers.   This year, Gill is aiming attend the new course currently being devised to cover 'Director' for Visually Impaired.

We are just waiting for the new Merit Award application pack to be finalised, then we are aiming to apply for this certification.

We are already working through the various criteria and once we have applied the various upgrades to our facility, we look forward to having a site assessment.
